"The Secret Murder Witness of Siraj-ud-Daulah" is a non-canonical adaptation of one of the darkest episodes of love, war and betrayal from Indian history. It is a mix of fact and fiction. Murshidabad, which was once the capital of the richest province of Mughal India, lost its eminence when Bengal Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah was treacherously defeated at the Battle of Plassey. The loss led to 200 years of Company Rule in India and Calcutta became the new capital of British India. Apart from this, an array of other life-changing events also took place after Siraj's downfall which impacted the course of history for centuries as we all know. The fall of Siraj-ud-Daulah in the 1757 Battle of Plassey, the last independent Nawab of Bengal, was not the only event of significance. Important is what led to his defeat? Nimak Haram Deori is said to be haunted. What had it witnessed? Who stays there? Mir Jafar loved Siraj more than his son, then why did he revolt against Siraj? What if Siraj had won the Battle of Plassey in 1757? Who actually killed Siraj? What were Robert Clive's last words? Was there any eye-witness of Siraj's murder? If so, who? Who celebrated Siraj's demise by starting an extravagant Durga Puja? Was Mir Jafar the real traitor or someone else who remained in the dark forever? Lots of answers remain in grey even today, with very few validated documentation of the events by historians. Through this book, author has tried to join these dots through a fictional string. The bricks of Murshidabad still bear odour of the blood baths that had shaken the walls of destiny years ago. This book is just an effort to delve out its opulent splendour in a dramatic way. "The Secret Murder Witness of Siraj-ud-Daulah" by Reetwika Banerjee has been already adapted into a screenplay. It will soon be filmed for big screen feature.

As it tells the story of Constantia Dudley, from her family's financial collapse to her encounters with a series of cosmopolitan revolutionaries and reactionaries, Charles Brockden Brown's Ormond; or The Secret Witness (1799) develops a sustained meditation on late-Enlightenment debates concerning political liberty, women's rights, conventions of sex-gender, and their relation to the reshaping of an Atlantic world in the throes of transformation. This edition of Ormond includes Brown's Alcuin (1798), an important dialogue on women's rights and marriage, as well as his key essays on history and literature, along with selections from contemporary writings on women's education and revolution debates that figure in the novel's background and in the charged atmosphere of the late 1790s.

#1 New York Times bestseller for 13 consecutive weeks! "As long as humanity speaks of virtue and dreams of freedom, the life and writings of Whittaker Chambers will ennoble and inspire." - PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN "One of the dozen or so indispensable books of the century..." - GEORGE F. WILL "Witness changed my worldview, my philosophical perceptions, and, without exaggeration, my life." - ROBERT D. NOVAK, from his Foreward "Chambers has written one of the really significant American autobiographies. When some future Plutarch writes his American Live, he will find in Chambers penetrating and terrible insights into America in the early twentieth century." - ARTHUR SCHLESINGER JR. "Chambers had a gift for language....to call Chambers an activist or Witness a political event is to say Dostoevsky was a criminologist or Crime and Punishment a morality tract." - WASHINGTON POST "Chambers was not just the witness against Alger Hiss, but was also one of th articulators of the modern conservative philosophy, a philosophy that has something to do with restoring the spiritual values of politics." - SAM TANENHAUS, author of Whittaker Chambers "One of the few indispensable autobiographies ever written by an American - and one of the best written, too." - HILTON KRAMER, The New Criterion First published in 1952, Witness is the true story of Soviet spies in America and the trial that captivated a nation. Part literary effort, part philosophical treatise, this intriguing autobiography recounts the famous Alger Hiss case and reveals much more. Chambers' worldview and his belief that "man without mysticism is a monster" went on to help make political conservatism a national force. Regnery History's Cold War Classics edition is the most comprehensive version of Witness ever published, featuring forewords collected from all previous editions, including discussions from luminaries William F. Buckley Jr., Robert D. Novak, Milton Hindus, and Alfred S. Regnery.

A political epic based on the early life of Eleanor Dulles–sister of John Foster Dulles, Secretary of State, and Allen Dulles, the first head of the CIA–and the secret beginnings of modern Israel. The Witness Tree interweaves years of classified research by co-author and Nazi war crimes investigator John Loftus with a perilous love story–the result is a sweeping novel of a diplomatic dynasty, born in the hope and treachery that defined the twentieth century. Eleanor Dulles comes from one of the most respected families in America. An economist and a socialist, she is the family rebel–and its last hope for salvation. Her affair with a mysterious younger man leads them into fateful brushes with the Zionist underground and the Soviet Comintern. Eleanor comes to understand her family’s connections to the treasonous Second World War oil business, and the unlikely lovers are led separately from war-torn Europe toward the doorstep of Nelson Rockefeller himself, with profound implications for the future of the Middle East. Part family saga, part political thriller, The Witness Tree imagines the little-known life of a woman who became the conscience of her family with a single, desperate act to redeem the soul of a nation betrayed. From the Hardcover edition.
